Polavarapu Lab
CHEO Research Institute • Ottawa, Canada
Dr Kiran Polavarapu was appointed as a Scientist at the CHEO Research Institute in January 2026, following five years as a postdoctoral fellow in the Lochmüller Lab. He is a clinical neurology-trained genomic scientist focused on uncovering the genetic causes of rare neuromuscular and neurodevelopmental diseases, particularly those with childhood onset.
His work integrates deep clinical phenotyping with advanced genomic and bioinformatic approaches to improve diagnosis and advance understanding of disease mechanisms. Kiran’s research training spans genotype–phenotype correlations across the brain–heart–muscle axis, alongside leadership experience in high-throughput clinical sequencing analysis.
The lab is building a research program at CHEO RI with a strong emphasis on international collaboration, data sharing, and mentorship, aligned with initiatives such as the Brain-Heart Interconnectome and the Eric Poulin Centre for Neuromuscular Diseases.
